Why Visit Riad Tizwa…?

Date

We are often asked: “Why should we visit Riad Tizwa in and when should we visit?”. So, here are the simple five reasons to visit us!

  1. Location:

Both Riad Tizwa Marrakech and Fes are located in the best areas of the old towns.

In Marrakech we are in the very prestigious area of Dar El Bacha – next to the King’s palace, its connecting museum and the exquisite Dar El Bacha Coffee Shop.  In Fes, we are at the top of the historic medina and in the excellent Batha local neighbourhood near to the famous Blue Gate – Bab Boujloud.

Both Riads are easily accessible by car – and that is a super rare quality!

  1. Architecture:

Riad Tizwa are historic buildings that have been lovingly restored.

Morocco has many, many beautiful building and hidden gems and when my brother and I were looking for our riads, we choose buildings that could be renovated and sympathetically upgraded rather than demolished and rebuild.

This decision was both an environmental one and to also respect the UNESCO World Heritage rules. As a result, Riad Tizwa Marrakech is one of the only Riad hotels in the city that still has the beauty of the traditional architecture, symmetries and meter thick walls that keep the rooms cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

  1. Home from home:

Riad Tizwa was created with you in mind.

When we opened Riad Tizwa Marrakech in 2005 we set out to create a hotel that we ourselves wanted to stay in.  Elegant – but not too fussy. Designed – but not stuck up. Relaxed – but help still on hand. Welcoming – but not embarrassingly subservient.

How this all shows itself is in things like breakfast is served at ANYTIME, in any place and at anywhere in the riad. (Who really likes being rushed when you are on holiday?). Our multi lingual Moroccan colleagues are on hand to help 24hs a day, but they are not in outfits like toy soldiers. We source all of our food locally and avoid any large corporate brands. And, oh yeah: the coffee is strong!

  1. Climate:

We are Morocco’s first ever Riad to be recognized for its environmental credentials.

Since day one we have been thinking about we can minimize the impact we have on the environment. For example, the natural soap is handmade up in the mountains by a woman’s collective, we encourage guests to use the local cooperative bicycle hire around the corner, plastic bags are a no-no, we collect the rain water to nourish the plants and you won’t find any electronics in the room (no TV’s or telephones). And we are about to introduce a new scheme in the riads, which is where we encourage every guest to deliberately leave an item of practical clothing – so that we can redistribute it to people less fortunate that ourselves in Morocco.

  1. Morocco is completely unique:

Quite simply put: Morocco is the most amazing short haul destinations.

For people who live in Europe, it takes only a quick 2 – 3 hours of travelling, and then you immediately arrive into a mystical and colourful world of medieval bazars; delicious tastes and traditions befitting of a time that reflects a bygone era.

The food is out of this world. Whether you are interested in the 2-euro street food or the exquisite linen experience of the fine dining moments – Morocco has it all. I personally opt for the delicious local tanjia and big pots of bubbling pulses that are the local street fare (whilst avoiding the snails). At Riad Tizwa we can get the local food brought to the house (at a reasonable local price) or our cook is always ready (with 24hs notice) to conjure up a Moroccan feast made with the available seasonal food.

Weather wise too – Morocco is the perfect spot for spring and autumn sunshine as well as an incredible winter get away. In December and January, you can often ski in the morning just 80 minutes outside Marrakech and then on your way back go for a swim under sunshine in the afternoon.

We would love to look after you and please contact us here if you have any questions or book above!
